Death From the Skies is a must-buy for Warhammer 40,000 players – the 160-page hardback contains new rules for Flyers that completely replace those found in Warhammer 40,000, with datasheets including new Agility, Combat Role and Pursuit Value characteristics and options for fielding Flyer Wing units, with their own leaders. On top of this, the book introduces the Dogfight phase – detailed combat between Flyers is now possible!

There is a new detachment:
Air Superiority Detachment
Is formed by 1-3 Flyer Wings
Restrictions: All models have to be chosen from the same faction
Benefits: – Air commander; If the commander of the Wing is in reserves, re-roll interception, If you have superiority and your Chief is in Reservers you add +2 to your reserve rolls instead of 1

- Combined formation: You choose to make a single reserve roll for the whole formation if you want.

- Transport that have the hover mode have the Objetive secured rule.

The stormhawk
costs 125 points and comes with:
Twin linked assault cannon, twin linked heavy bolter, “super laser thing” (24”, S9, AP2, Heavy 2), Ceraminte plating, and one of them that allow the stormhawk reroll when jinking. Has the supersonic special rule.
May exchange the laser thing for an Icurus Cannon for 15 points.
May exchange the heavy bolter for a Typhoon missile launcher for +20 points or for a Celestial hammer missile thrower for +5 points.

New:

  • All Flyers have now three new Atributes: Combat Role, Pursuit and Agility (the more the better)

  • When shooting there are two types of targes: Ground and flying. Flying targets are FMC, other Flyers, Jetbikes and Grav vehicles. The rest are ground targets.
  • New rule: Air superiority: If a player has Flyers in Reserve at the end of the Aerial Duel Phase can add +1/-1 to their reserve rolls. Opponent has -1 to reserve rolls.
  • Any flyer can now make an additional pivot at any point of ther movement if they roll their Agility or less in a single D6.
  • Only Flyers with the Attack Role can have AA when shooting, but they have -1 BS when shooting Ground Targets.
  • Flyers do not benefit from cover (Terrain or other models)
  • When moving Flat Out you can add your Pursuit to the distance

  • The different combat roles give different bonusses depending on the type of the Attack Pattern.

There are 6 different attack patterns.

Duel Phase
happens at the beginning of each Player’s turn. It is optional. It only involves Flyers in reserve or active reserves. If a player wants to skip the phase, roll a d6. Winner decides.

4 Subphases:
Interception
Aproximation
Maneuver
Attack

INTERCEPTION
Each player roll a D6. Winner (after applying modificators) is attacking player, the other defending player.

APROX, MANEUVER AND ATTACK
During each phase each player chooses secretly a Tactic, then compare tactics in a table and apply results.

At the end of the Attack phase, resolve a shooting phase between both flyers, applying the mods from the previous phases (if any)

Another new element is Flyer Wings. These can be deployed in Attack Patterns and have Wing Leaders. A Flyer Wing is a group of 2 to 4 Flyers taken from the same datasheet or Formation. The Wing Leader gets a special ability to represent his experience and skill. Keeping the unit close together in one of a series of Attack Patterns will give the wing special benefits. I will be deploying my Dakkajets in a Vigilance Attack Pattern to gain +1 Ballistic Skill against ground targets.

The updated Flyer rules in Death from the Skies completely replace those in Warhammer 40,000: The Rules. The highlight for me is the Break Turns rule which allows your flyer to try to make a second turn if they pass an Agility (a new statistic on every datasheet in the book) roll.

Pick one unit that all 4 planes have LoS to. PERMANENT preferred enemy against ANY unit of it’s kind. (I.E: You pick ONE Tactical squad, You get permanent Preferred Enemy on ALL Tactical squads for the rest of the battle).

All planes in the attack pattern must be from same formation or attack wing.

Attack wing: 2-4 planes (all same). Flyers can now be bought in units of 1-4 per slot, but they only count as attack wing if they are 2+. Attack wings may use Attack patterns. One flyer gets “Wing leader”, wich is a free “Fighter ace” equivalent. Fighter ace, as we know it, is not in the book, instead, it’s a campaign bonus. (There are 3 bonuses to randomize from on the wing leader table. The campaign fighter ace has 6, and you can earn all 6 by becoming a Top Gun (Kill 30 flyers during a campaign without dying)).

NOTE: Flyers from same attack wing do not follow rules for squadrons, or count as a single unit, nor do they need to be in coherency. (unless they want to benefit from attack patterns.)

The flyer detachment consists 1-3 attack wings. All from same codex/faction. (Formations count as attack wings).
So now, you can have a pair of any flyer as a separate detachment!

I.E: on attack wings.

2-4 razorwings is an attack wing.
2-4 voidravens is an attackwing.
1 razorwing + 1 voidraven is not an attack wing, and thus, can’t benefit from attack patterns.
3 razorwings + 1 voidraven, the razorwings is an attack wing, the voidraven isn’t.
However, there’s a 2 Razor-2 voidraven formation, where they all count as the same attack wing, and thus benefit from attack patterns.

On appropriate targets: flying targets for fighters , ground targets for attack craft.

Много непонятных терминов, в которые без книги слишком сложно! :D

Немного плюшек для Лидеров Крыла.

Мары:
1-2 Игнор шейкена и стана для лидера.
3-4 рерол 1 на раны и пробития для лидера
5-6 5++ для лидера, и в догфайте на 6ку падая он получает армор бейн

Валькирии:
1-2 – если начали мувмент фазу в аттак паттерне, то можно подвигаться на 3 дюйма дальше и автопройти тест на Брейк (видимо, лишний доворот в фау мува). Применимо ко всему крылу
3-4 – реролл единиц на ту вунд и пробой для всего крыла, если находятся в аттак паттерне
5-6 – реролл джинка для всего крыла, если на момент кидания сейва за джинк, флаеры были в аттак паттерне

BA:
12: +1 to pursuit and if he wins a dogfight phase he MUST close in and gains +1BS.
34: automatically passes the roll needed to turn a second time.
56: If he dies, he gets to shot one last time before going kaboom. (so basically useless if you’re aiming for campaign bonuses)

Dark Angels:
12: +1 pursuit, or +2 VS chaos (meh)
34: you can come from any table edge from reserve О_О
56: Friendly DA within 12” of the leader do not deviate when deep striking.

Necrons:
12: +1 CT to one gun, and +1CT to the whole squad IF they use the same gun and IF they fly in a pattern.
34: Reroll one save per turn. Every other flyer in the squad has one reroll too IF they fly in a pattern.
56: Leader has IWND

12: Hell forge can be used EACH TURN instead of once a game
34: if you kill something, next shooting phase you have twin-linked
56: +1 to pursuit for the whole squad in dogfight. One of the rare “whole squad” bonus

Eldar
12: +1 to agility, and another +1 to dogfight. Which means 7. Yay.
34: 5++, like the Marine one
56: You can reroll all to hit of 1. For the whole squad.

Crimson Hunter have a scandalous Agility and Pursuit score of 5, while the Hemlock is 5P 4A. (знать бы что всё это даёт :D)
The formation give them +2 to deny the witch and the Hemlock has automatically Dissimulation from Telepathy (don’t know the english name). (шрауд судя по всему, гы)

ГК
12: leader gets shrouded against shoots at 18” or less
34: 4++ against the first penetrating hit each turn
56: Got psychic pilote with Banishing and Purifying flame (Wow!)

DE
12: +1 to pursuit, +1 to roll in dogfight
34: One reroll per turn, any roll.
56: +1 to BS if the the Leader attacks before other squad members. Must not be the only one craft of the formation on the table.

Razorwing is 5/5 Fighter, Voidraven is 5/4 Bomber (no attack craft). Huge stats…
The formation gives interceptor to the Razorwing if it uses a pattern. If in reserve, enemy cannot dogfight the bombers. Plus, you get to choose one unit, the formation has prefered enemy for the game against this unit
